CARRIE, I AM MAKING A BIRDHOUSE
right now i am making a crib, i am fussily gluing styrene rod to little styrene strips and mushing some milliput in there and it keeps breaking but now i think i've got it and hopefully it will be Wonderful and someone will look at it and say I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU MADE THIS LITTLE CRIB WITH ITS KITTEN FEET AND ALL ITS FUR WOW. that is the goal of wargames.

now i don't know about YOU but i am great at building things. BUT. it is often difficult to climb up the cliff of Putting The Paint On It. i have mostly figured it out for miniatures (even if it takes me a long time, shout out to the goblin musician that i started painting at the pool last summer and who has waited 6 months for me to highlight his skin), but scratch-built stuff, i just don't do it. i think it is this: once i start painting, i have finished and i can't do another texture pass or redo the hand, etc etc! even though this is not true! i have a few models that i almost completely painted and then just sculpted another little thing right there on top of the paint and now it will probably fall off. so who knows why i tell myself this!

like, look here, look at this house. i made this for turnip28 obviously, and it is 99% done! it is so close! and i even painted it almost all the way too. but you know what i didn't do? put the perfect heraldry on the shield. so it's not done and i haven't touched it in a long time, except recently i did finally think I WILL JUST PUT A SMILEY FACE ON IT and i started to do that and did not quite finish as you can see.

that's not quite the same thing but i wanted to show the picture of the house because i do like it very much. i was noticing it the other day, up on the shelf in the garage, and it is sort of astounding that it's not "done". why didn't i finish it? it would take just a few minutes. i'm going to finish it when i get home today. then it will be done! maybe i should just finish things idk!

but i don't NEED to finish it. there's not a Thing coming up that i'm going to finish it for. that is the secret actually. having a Thing. so i am not going to finish the house today, but i AM going to finish this crib and then make a SECOND HOUSE that the roof comes off because then i will be able to REVEAL THE CRIB and everyone will celebrate my name forevermore. and that is the goal of wargames.
